The Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage HE Hamad Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, yesterday met the chief editors of newspapers published from Qatar to discuss the role of the media in covering the upcoming activities of Doha Capital of Arab Culture 2010.
“The local Arab and English press has an important role in following up the events and activities both inside and outside Qatar, in order to highlight the true picture of development the country is witnessing, especially after the abolition of censorship by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani,” the minister said.
Enlarging on the preparations preceding the declaration of Doha as the capital of Arab culture 2010, HE al-Kuwari observed that the ministry had aimed at continuing cultural activities even after the 2010 tenure.
An operetta, ‘House of Wisdom’, which will be presented in 2010, is a Qatari-Syrian musical drama. It will depict the renaissance experienced by Arab and Islamic nations, as well as the cultural and educational development Qatar is witnessing.
The Minister also urged all local newspapers to highlight the Doha Capital of Arab Culture 2010 events as a group and not as competitors. The activities will take place in Qatar and worldwide.
